Today I’ve got a present for ya – a very interesting story on how you can improve your open rate of your emails that you send.
And you know what?
Higher Open Rate = More clicks = More Sales. Right?
Here is how it works.
First I sent a regular blast to my test Internet Marketing list of 1663 people. Take a look on the stats:
18.5% open rate. 184 clicks. Good results.
but nothing to brag about. Everyone can do that.
Look. Here is the problem.
1350 people which is 79.9% of the list did not do anything with my offer! They simply missed or ignored my message.
We need to get their attention!!
Of course, you could send the new duplicate blast hoping that they will open but you will only anger people who already opened the first one!
So here is the trick.
Instead of sending a duplicated blast to the whole list you export people who opened the first email and save them into the “opened_segment”. You can do it in most of popular autoresponder email services like iContact.
Then you send a duplicate blast (with different header) to the list who DID NOT OPEN the first email. This way you do not anger the people who opened the first one.
These headers work really well for me:
- Open up
- Please open this email
- Do not open this…
- You missed last email
- re: Did you get this earlier today?
Here are my result of such “followup” to “did-not-open” list:
See? 148 people or 10% more opened it and most of them clicked on my offer!
Great, isn’t it? And that is totally ethic without angering the people who opened the email on the first blast!
